It is said that on Christmas Eve, in the court of Duke Ludovico, he held a large gala dinner.
For that occasion the head of the ducal kitchen had prepared a special dessert, worthy of close successfully the sumptuous banquet.
The cake, however, was burned while cooking. In the kitchen you lived moments of panic:
feared the wrath of the Duke, when he knew the impossibility of presenting the cake to the guests eagerly awaited.
To remedy this, one of the kitchen garbage boy, whose name was Toni, proposed a fresh he had prepared for his friends with the remains of one that was burned.
The head chef, having nothing else to choose from, decided to serve the unusual sweet bread offered by the kitchen boy.
The unusual dessert, which looked like a dome surrounded by a brown crust when it was presented to the guests of the Duke, he was greeted by thunderous applause and, in an instant, he went like hot cakes.
A chorus of praise rose from all over the table, was born a sweet new:
"El Pan de Toni", Panettone.
